I saw this article today, but I question its accuracy. There have been a lot of posts on CD lately with people inquiring about moving to San Jose/SV.

The population growth in San Jose slowed down in the 2000s, though. It grew pretty fast in the early years.

They are using house prices as a proxy for demand, I always thought rent is a much better gauge of supply/demand, (I don't think there was a huge demand for people to move practically everywhere in 2006). The truth is that supply has been a lot more constrained the last 12 years, versus the 90s. Either way looking at rents in the 00s they dropped big time during the dot com bust, and then started going up in 2005, dropped in 2009 and 2010 due to the recession, but have been going up a lot lately, so people are certainly moving here, but mostly renting apartments, I think if these new residents stick around for a while they may begin buying houses, specially if they think it is cheaper than renting, or that prices will go up enough to more than cover the costs of buying and selling.

It's really weird that it is packed to the brim with people, yet is such a BORING, unimaginative place to live.

Agreed with the article. The only reason to live in San Jose is for jobs. Even then there are many neighboring towns that are much nicer. I know people who say they live in Campbell while they have a San Jose zip code.

Yes, that's true. But in the last 6 months or so it seems there have been more "moving to San Jose/SV" post than there have been the last few years.

But I do agree...I don't think SJ is going to be a fast growing city any more. We would need to build a lot of high density housing for that, and there are to many rules/people against it for that to happen.

That's been covered elsewhere. In short, there are too many people of the same personality type here. Engineers/computer programmers dominate and they are not very outward/socially focused.

Funny - no one wants to live here but our unemployment is lower than the US average and we have multiple offers on rentals and homes :-)
