Hi All

So been here 4 months now in San Jose and loving it so far :-)

For a town with nice places to eat/have a main street to walk/shop we like

1. Los Gatos
2. Mountain view (castro)
3. Burlingame
4. University Ave (Palo Alto)

Any places similar to the above that we have missed? i.e. a town with a street that can be walked/shopped?

Thanks as always

I'd add the following downtowns as nice places to walk/shop/eat (from north to south):

1. San Mateo
2. San Carlos
3. Menlo Park
4. Los Altos
5. Saratoga

Murphy Ave (Sunnyvale) (also rather small)
Lincoln St. (Willow Glen, San Jose)

Saratoga is really pleasant and has a nice downtown main street going on.

If you want to drive a little, check out Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Plus, there are more great towns outside of the south bay: Pleasanton, Danville, Walnut Creek, Alameda, several Oakland and Berkeley neighborhoods, and tons of town in Marin: Larkspur, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Sausalito, etc. And there are the wine country towns: St Helena, Calistoga, Napa, Yountville, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Healdsburg.
