Incorrect analogy. They didn't ban bags, they banned PLASTIC bags.
The correct analogy would be banning low-fuel-economy/high-polluting cars.
Which is exactly what is happening.

No human activity is without impact. The key is to make intelligent choices among the available options. Living in filth creates disease, so we make the choice to wash our clothes. BUT, we use cold water whenever possible, remove phosphates/etc from detergent, improve the energy efficiency of washing machines, hang to dry when possible, etc.

But people who really and honestly care about the environment don't have washing machines, remember? Kind of defeats the purpose to switch to reusable bags only to have to use washing machines to wash them, right?

I thought we were talking about saving the environment and not degrading the quality of life?

Anyone who advocates banning plastic bags to save the environment but still uses a washing machine to do their laundry is a hypocrite.

And you don't think the manufacture of low-emissions cars negatively impacts the environment? How about the manufacture and disposal of all those massive batteries in hybrid cars and all-electric cars? How about all the coal that is burned that pollutes the air to generate the electricity for these plug-in hybrids and rechargeable all-electric cars? How about the drilling, extraction, production, and refining of gasoline? ALL cars negatively impact the environment.

Oh, didn't you know? The plan has always been to also ban paper bags after the plastic ones.

Discussions about environmental impacts become quite academic in a country that is slipping below replacement. Our impact has probably already peaked, since efficiency is having an effect that will counteract the final sputter of growth prior to the inflection point.

I'll do you one better: Are you in favor of breeding humans?

That being true, they should encourage the beneficial recycling of plastic bags by including instructions on them for putting them over your head and breathing deeply. California is way over-crowded.

Oh, I get it now. You're being argumentative for the sake of arguing. Sorry, I thought we were having a discussion, my mistake.

Peace out.
