Would rent in PaloAlto or Saratoga (which have ok public schools) esp in era of depreciating housing
Any decent 3K sf new build is >$2MM (~$1MM/ac and $300psf build) in PortolaVy (and land/new build costs in even elite areas are slowly depreciating despite the social media/ads bubble)
Schools are more abt being nr other smart kids of (often) smart engineers who work in PA region (not sure how much IQ chooses to reside in EastBay or SJ (or SF) itself)
And in era of udacity, etc, any schools (incl Stanf) are merely old-fashioned analog social meeting grounds anyway
Even for workers, hard to quantify potential career value of living in PA region where one has higher odds of bumping into/getting to know future employers/investors/colleagues (vs living in nominally cheaper suburbs in Podunk)
Like most of relevant Seatt resides in Medina corridor, most of relevant SV resides in PA corridor
Bridges&tunnels are inexcusable sources of inefficiency (esp in a quake zone w/more virtualization than anywhere on planet, where long daily b&t commutes are truly mockable Luddite lifestyles of society's less productive)

A fine example of barely readable bourgeois idiocy. So your saying all those who say commute from Walnut Creek to San Francisco via the Bay Bridge are unproductive. And what about the millions who pour into Manhattan every day using the many bridges and tunnels. Bridges and tunnels are much more efficient than ferries, and much more productive than foolish ideas such as yours.

Thanks for the input. I will be heading down this week end and will spend some time in Scotts Valley area to get a flavor. I am afraid that the saratoga, palo alto etc... area would be out of our budget or we would have the scale down to much the house, even if I agree that we might be more outside...
If anyome is living in Scotts Valley the feed back on quality of life and traffic on 17 would be welcome.

Thanks
See ya
