I live in the south bay and I would *never* take that route, let alone at 9AM during the week. 101 is a *madhouse* at 9-9:30 in the morning, even if there's no accident.

Definitely I-280 to 85 to 17. And check traffic reports before leaving ( Traffic CBS San Francisco ) and listen to AM-740 for updates (if you don't have a smartphone).

Ditto. 280 is always preferable over 101.
