My husband and I are relocating to what we hope will be the Redwood City area this coming summer. My husbands job is going to be taking him to San Jose, and I will be commuting to SF for school. I wanted to see if anyone has made this commute, and how you might suggest going about it. I am trying to avoid driving in any way, and will only need to get to the city 3 days a week. Any suggestions would be great. We do not know if Redwood City is the best place even, so any other suggestions are welcomed!

Thanks in advance,

Amelia

Check out San Carlos. There are many apartment buildings in the downtown area. The downtown area is walkable with many shops, restaurants, and a park with library, all within walking distance to the Caltrain station for commuting to SF or San Jose. caltrain.com

There are two options commuting from central San Mateo County to San Francisco: Caltrain and the KX express which runs on El Camino Real. There used to be more express lines, but they were discontinued a couple of years ago. The KX is more convenient because it takes you to the downtown center, as opposed to Caltrain which leaves you kind of far from everything.

This really depends on WHERE in SF and San Jose the OP and her husband will be working. Both jobs could be far from the Caltrain stations. Both SF and San Jose have light rail stops at their Caltrain stations for getting around in both cities.
