Absolutely beautiful area! May I ask about the airport - which one serves the town of Lompico? Thank you for letting us know about this absolutely beautiful community. Best wishes.

Hi Donna,
Actually, Lompico is not a "town," it is an area of the town of Felton, which is just above Santa Cruz. It's a "neighborhood," but tucked away in the redwoods, and as you can see by the lompico.org link, it is an active community helping each other. (We don't have much choice as we really are in the country, and you do need to know and help your neighbors.) The airport is San Jose. Of course, one can use San Francisco or Oakland, too. My daughter, who will be returning from Chile in January, went there and will return via the airport in San Francisco, although San Jose is much closer. I prefer using the San Jose airport, over San Francisco. There is also an airport in Monterey, but I have never used that one. (Monterey is only an hour away from us.) So, there's lots of choices. Hope this helps, and glad you liked our little community. This is why this board is so helpful, you get to learn about places you never heard about and maybe it's just the place one wants. Kind of a form of "Trading Spaces!" Thanks so much. |

I actually went back to our lompico.org site and looked it over again and I realize I really DO have it good here, and I actually use or have been to every place mentioned on that site. My favorite parks that I often frequent are Loch Lomond, Quail Hollow Ranch (love to watch the horses), Fall Creek Park, Highlands Park (where my daughter went to after-school care for 6 years -- beautiful park), and Roaring Camp. I actually don't go to the beach that often because there is so much up in our area, and there are less crowds.
But I have to still face the reality that eventually if I want to retire, I just cannot do so and still remain here -- and, as many people have mentioned, prices in California are high, and to stay here would mean never retiring. So, I will definitely miss many of these things because they are so lovely. I just don't see any way around it. It is sad. Maybe when I'm ready there will be someone to "trade" with -- I have something I'm sure many people would like, and maybe they have something I'd like for my needs then. Who knows? But thanks again -- made me feel nostalgic and I haven't even left the area!! Think I'll go take a hike at Quail Hollow Ranch! ![]() |

Some air service may be closer at the Monterrey airport, but most use San Jose.
wisteria, Where are you in relation to Trinkling Creek Rd. in Lompico? I saw you say that you are in walking distance of the lake. I have a motive in asking - I own one of the houses on that road but haven't lived there lately. |

Hi! Are you in Sonoma now?? Hint, hint?? Yes, I DID live on Trinkling Creek, and now live on West Drive! Is it a give away?? Actually, I think China just moved, and you probably know that Trish and Charlie went to Ben Lomond to have a bigger house for the kids.
Dan, the handyman, Mr. Pumper, just put in my septic system -- and my neighbor, Debbie, says she loves that I have redone the yard because when she looks over she feels such peace! I think I gave you enough hints. As you know, Lompico is a little-known area in Santa Cruz, and it's such a unique area, that I like to let people know how cool it is and that neighbors work together, and there are so many great things within easy access -- and it's so much cheaper than anyplace else in the County, yet so close to the ocean. I was quite surprised when I moved to California -- I chose to live in Felton over Santa Cruz, just because I liked it better. Congratulations on your move -- and I hope you are doing well! P.S. Everyone else, you can see that in our neighborhood, a lot of people know each other around here! |

We used to live in Pleasanton and sold our home 4 1/2 years ago. It was 2675 sq. feet on a large corner lot. Pleasanton is a very nice bedroom city about 30 miles from San Jose and 30 miles from Oakland. Lovely town with lots of charm and is a very desireable area. In 2002 we sold the (tract) house for $750K. According to some very good friends who live in the same neighborhood/same house plan, the same house now goes for !.2 million!
They indicated that the prices haven't really "adjusted" like everyone was predicting, but it is taking longer to sell. We also have some friends in Brentwood (near Antioch and Discovery Bay) who just sold their home (Del Web) which is about 2300 sq. feet on the golf course for $850...they were originally asking $875 so not a lot of negotiating. Homes sold for more than asking prices a few years ago, but not so much now. Pretty much the same story everywhere in the Bay Area |
