No freakin' way. Don't know what markets you've been to, but that's not true for any of the ones I go to in the South Bay. You can query the vendors, the people who run the markets, and their customers, and they will tell you where their produce comes from. Ask the Master Gardeners if you need a more objective source. And if you can't tell an heirloom tomato from a supermarket brick tomato, see the doctor.

I don't know which farmers' markets you're going to but that is absolutely not true for the farmers' markets I frequent. Grocery stores don't even carry the items I bought this weekend, like golden pluots or organic golden beets. Everything I bought this weekend was far better quality and taken off the tree much later than anything I can find at Whole Foods or any other grocery store.

We ate Brentwood corn on Saturday that was picked that morning in the Delta and sold to us about four hours later. My wife had never eaten corn that sweet.

That's not my experience either. There are rules (laws) about what can be sold at Framer's markets : stuff you grew on your farm. You are not even supposed to bring up for sale stuff that the neighboring farmer grew on the plot next door.

If you know of places that are just reselling wholesale warehouse produce, you should report them.

Does anyone know if any of them are Organic-only? I hate querying the vendors to ask...

Can't you tell from the signage?

I created a thread a while back about locating organic fruit at farmers' markets. Organic veggies are plentiful and easy to find. Organic fruit is harder to find but available.

By law, if they claim to sell organic food at a farmer's market, they have to post it in writing. There should be a HUGE banner that proudly proclaims "Organic Certified", because if they are, they won't you to know it.
