Hello guys, this is quite an informative and helpful forum. I am impressed with the number of people who respond to queries with sincere opinions.
I am gonna be working at Cupertino from Jan 2008 and I am gonna relocate from LA. Could you guys suggest a good area/place/neighborhood to live? I am in my mid-twenties and single. I am looking for a place that has proximity to a good social/night life. I dont know how much of a social life my work will let me have, but hey let me at least put myself in a place where I will have an option! Appreciate any response and thanks a bunch in advance! I live in Cupertino. It is ok. I wouldn't recommend it for a twenty something single person. It is more of your typical suburban area, with good schools.
I would recommend living in Mountain View, near the downtown. There is a strip of bars and restaurants etc. Your commute to Cupertino in the morning would be down 85, which is the opposite way of the traffic. Willow Glen may also fit your style. |

i second that... mountain view, menlo park, or palo alto (all next to each other) are about 15 min up the freeway and much better for single people. Cupertino does not really have any nightlife and is more family oriented suburbs.

I also agree with Mountain View. Palo Alto is also nice but more expensive. Cupertino is kinda dull.
The nightlife in Silicon Valley in general is somewhat lacking, but Mountain View will also put you a bit closer to San Francisco than living in Cupertino. San Jose is only slightly further away from Mountain View than Cupertino is. |

Thanks Guys for the response. The general vibe that I get from quite a few people about the social/night life in the silicon valley is that it is not so bright. Is that because of the fact that men outnumber women or is it because of the population comprising mostly of techies?
I know statistics are like bikini - what they reveal is interesting, but what they do not is even more interesting! So, I am not trying to generalize anything about the place. Just wondering about your personal opinions/experience! |

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing - but Cupertino has seen a HUGE influx of Asians who moved there for the schools. And by huge, I mean the demographics have gone from about a quarter Asian to nearly half in the space of just a few years. That's the kind of crush you'll be competing with if you're looking for real estate or even apartments there. It'll be interesting to see if this trend can keep the prices high, or if it will end and subsequently push Cupertino into a decline..

I think the nightlife is lacking because the area is generally families. So yeah it is probably because of the "techies". The focus here is aimed toward families, pretty much throughout Silicon Valley.

That's great to know.
I know many students from Monta Vista (white and asian) who say that article is bull. |
