Hi, I am moving to the bay area with a special needs child 9 years of age. Need a advise on special needs schools prefer fremont or sunnyvale schoold districts. Also interested in private special education schools if they are good. Also any website on the process for applying to these school districts - do we approach them directly or is there a process. Any advise would be helpful.

Thanks

First of all, you need to be a resident of these communities to be eligible to attend these public school districts - you should access these websites directly to determine their geographic attendance areas and be able to register your child for attendance. You will probably need to show proof of residency, such as a utility bill, drivers' license, lease contract, etc. Then they can direct you about the availability of Special Ed services at which school sites.

Please note - here there is a distinction between Fremont Unified School District, which serves Fremont, CA, and a Fremont UNION High School District, which is a district composed of high schools (Fremont, Homestead, Monta Vista, Lynbrook and Cupertino) which cover the cities of Sunnyvale, Cupertino, parts of San Jose and Saratoga.
