I've recently moved to the Silicon Valley area with my girlfriend; we both have jobs in Mountain View. We're still looking for a place to live, and while we are willing to live in MV, we've found that it seems not only expensive but also, for the most part, very "un-charming" with the exception of a few small areas. We drove through Los Gatos the other day and thought it seemed like a much prettier place with more of a community feel. My question is, since we're ages 23-24, would we feel isolated there? Would we have anyone our age around to socialize with?

Thanks for the help!

I would stay in Mountain View and go to Castro or PA for fun. Or you can jump ship to live in Downtown San Jose and use public transit to work in MV.

Los Gatos has 2 lounges and 1 sports bar. Everything else shuts down at 9pm.

You probably should go there on the weekend nights to see if that's the crowd you'll like, but yes, you'll find plenty of people your age to socialize with.

Also, I'm the opposite of the above. I'd much rather live in Los Gatos than Palo Alto, it's far prettier.

Commute from Los Gatos to Mtn View is not charming...something you may want to test during commute hours and see if you are OK with it

Otherwise it is down to personal preference, with Mountain View having its own great downtown PLUS Palo Alto very vibrant downtown. Los Gatos is a bit on its own (neighboring Saratoga has downtown too, but not as vibrant imho)

Huh??? That is WAY wrong. For a small town, Los Gatos is full of great bars.

Off the top of my head, the following bars are open until 2AM.

CB Hannigans
Carry Nations
Number One Broadway
Black Watch
Charleys LG (Aka Mountain Charleys)
The Cats (closes at 12:30 AM on weekends)

Having been out of the bar scene for many years, I'm sure I missed a few too.

Having grown up in Los Gatos and currently working for a Valley company, I can't wrap my head around a pair of early 20 somethings who just move to the area being able to afford a nice lifestyle in Los Gatos.

Ahh, I was thinking of Carry and Charley's. I forgot about Blackwatch. Hmm...so maybe there are more than 2 haha!

It's possible, if they both make decent salaries and are planning to rent... plus, certain spots in Los Gatos aren't as expensive, and I have a few colleagues in their 20's-30's who live there. We don't know their income/s, so to speculate is kind of pointless.
