This is how it was at different places I worked at:

Company 1: 15 days vacation, unlimited sick leave, 3+ years goes up to 18 days vacation, ~9-10 holidays a year
Company 2: 10 days vacation, 5+ years goes up to 15, 10+ years goes up to 20, 3 floating holidays, 8 PTO days, ~8-10 holidays a year
Company 3: 15 days vacation, unlimited sick leave, 5+ years goes up to 15, ~14-15 holidays per year.
Company 4: 15 PTO days, ~10 holidays per year.

PTO, floating holidays, or vacation days, are different names for days you get paid for but don't have to work. None of the places I worked at have had infinite vacation policies like Netflix. These were all tech companies though, so they may be more generous than other companies.

This is what happened at my company. I kind of preferred being able to see my PTO accrue and know I had x number of days available, but honestly I probably get more days off the way it is now. We also have sick days which accrue, but I barely ever use them so I'm not even sure how it works.

This is really manager-dependent. But I would hate this system - you would feel like you should never take any time off.

Agree on both… I miss the old PTO system but it's hard to complain when I've taken almost 3 weeks off already this year.
