And tell me any, just ANY city of over the population of 500,000 that is more boring than San Jose. Okay, maybe Phoenix, but are you seriously gonna compare Silicon Valley to Phoenix?

edit: turns out that Phoenix actually has almost twice as many things to do as SJ. guess i was wrong

San Jose is a big, boring city. I'm here for the money, not the culture. IMO it's one of the best deals on the salary vs cost-of living curve in the country.

Why not SF?

SF is up to double the cost in housing for little discernible salary increase. Just not worth it if your only goal is to put away as much money as possible.

Why would your goal in life be that? Most people don't choose to live in a city with your intentions.

My plan is to reach financial independence as soon as possible (should be around age 32), and then move out of the area, perhaps out of the country. Thus the ability to max my savings becomes critical.

Financial independence isn't my goal in life, but it's a definite step.

Okay, but I don't think your intentions are exactly reasons for San Jose being a good place to live...

There are no boring places, just boring people.

Why hang out in the SJ forum when you dislike the city so much?
Me disliking SJ is an opinion. What is a FACT is that it barely has any amenities for a city of its size. Nearly all cities have at least three times more things to do than SJ. Give me a city that has a population of over 600,000 and doesn’t have more things to do than San Jose. Denver, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Boston aren’t exactly world class cities yet they have over 4 times as many things to do as SJ.

San Jose isn’t particularly appealing in terms of natural beauty either. In SF you get bang for your buck. Beautiful city and tons of amenities. San Jose is an expensive city; you don’t get either of those things. Nothing special about San Jose besides cleanliness/safety and good job market, and SF has the latter.

I think this is a good thing, it means we are more desirable than Frisco.
