nope; SJ is way more diverse than LA (SJ has way more asians than LA but also has a ****load of Latin-Americans and some whites).
-Traffic in SJ isn't the same levels as LA but it's getting there.
-People aren't as asses like LA but they are getting there.
-SJ is more expensive
-SJ has higher salaries
-SJ is safer

so on and so forth.

It isn't a statewide thing. Other cities in LA county, or in the Bay Area, make it much easier.

Nope. If you are from LA, traffic is better here and everything is closer. It's also more expensive and since it's closer it means the bad parts are closer to the good parts (reminds me a lot of San Fernando Valley in that respect, all the cities running into one another and 5 blocks this way costs a fortune and 5 blocks that way will scare you).

It tends to be a touch cooler, though, which is nice.

"Mid-size" houses are much smaller here and on smaller lots and cost twice as much (save the pricey LA zip codes).

There is far more Asian food here, and far fewer Mexican "sit-down" nicer (not high-end, but mid-grade I guess you would say) restaurants here and and it's not as good.

EVERYTHING that requires space to exist (i.e. rent or building ownership) costs more. Significantly more. This was most noticeable to us when it came to services.

And they won't use "the" properly in front of the number of a freeway here and will point out that you stand out b/c you do.

Default Absolutely not

It's like comparing Kankakee, Ill with New York City or Pleasant Gap, PA with Washington, DC.

San Jose is a few generations away from being what LA was a few generations ago.

We're talking about general feel of the two regions, not a penis measuring contest. Stick to the topic.

Growing up and being from San Jose and also living in Socal (LA, westside, Valley, Orange County)
Biggest difference is population and traffic.
SJ alone is about 1 million, the entire bay area combined is around 3 mil. LA (city limit) alone is 4 mil. Add the surrounding areas (valley, long beach, oc) socal is around 10mil.
SJ's 101 freeway is only traffic during rush hours, (morning commute and evening) After 7-8pm, I can speed to SF in 30min - 45mins. LA/Socal Freeways, don't matter what time it is, traffic as ****. Don't matter if its 8pm or 10pm, a 4-5 lane freeway (405, 91, 5) will be congested everyday
More people, more traffic and more crime, more interesting news since there are live police car chases weekly.
The weather is about the same, but LA is warmer and drier and doesn't get as much rain as Norcal.
Both are multicultural, LA has whites, mexicans, blacks, euros, persians, asians, everything. SJ majority is mexican, asians and whites.
Job wise, bay area is known more for tech jobs and healthcare. LA has more "entertainment" jobs, business and healthcare positions. Also, the salaries are higher up north, a normal "techie" here usually makes around 40k - 50k, but in SJ, same jobs will pay around 60-70k. Pay usually evens out when it comes to housing costs. 2bedroom apts here can be had for 2000 when SJ will go towards 2500-3000
Cost of living are both high, (house i grew up in North SJ was 3bedroom 200k in 90's, trying to buy same house will cost me 700k now.
Biggest difference I see from SJ and LA are SJ has more single family homes. LA city basically has buildings upon buildings of apartment complexes and condos, which i think adds to the higher population.
My personal opinion is the area of Socal that resembles San Jose more is Orange County, (Anaheim, Irvine area) this area has more of the tech jobs and homes.
Just my thoughts, Lived in SJ from 80-98, 04-12, Socal from 98-04 & now 2012 to current
