it is quite hard to do that nowadays. I usually use one e-mail for communicating with closed ones and another for "junk storage". Since most websites especially commercial ones can not help sending the marketing materials and other junks dealing with all of them is simploy impossible and waste of time. So I use second e-mail to register with any online account. This way I manage to make the main account in moderate state.

Anyone know how to stop the community newspaper that someone throws on my driveway every friday? Thing always gets rained on, parked on, stepped on, and then yours truly has to clean it up.

Seriously? If that's the worst thing in your life then you are lucky.

I have no problem picking it up (it's always there on the same day, more or less at the same time) and tossing it in the trash.

I recently got a private mailbox at a local mailbox services business so I could have packages mailed there, where they always have someone to sign for them. That PMB gets NO junk mail. I never really thought about it until I read this post. So, it would be an option for you. It's also really convenient to have packages delivered somewhere where there's someone to sign for them and store them safely.

As far as unwanted phone calls, my cell phone number got on some list, and there's one telemarketer that is relentless - rings my phone at least 4 times a day, starting as early as 7am and goes until around 8pm. I got so sick of it ringing, even though I quit answering their calls after telling them to take me off their list, I finally got around to getting on that Do Not Call Registry a while back. This morning after about 3 calls in 4 hours, I went searching online to see if I could report them on the Do Not Call Registry - and you can.

They don't promise you won't get any more calls, but when I filled out the form, I listed all of the times they called me as far back as my old cell phone kept that info. I'm hoping they get zapped by the Feds, but I won't hold my breath.

That won't help. They couldn't care less about the do-not-call list. Most of them are overseas and untouchable. (They spoof their caller IDs.)

If this is a smart phone, you need to get a call blocker app. I use one called, Mr Number. It is WONDERFUL and totally free. It works by maintaining a block-list, and checks the caller ID of every call. If they're on your blocklist, it either hangs up or goes into voicemail at your discretion. Most of the time it does this without even ringing your phone at all. Sometimes you'll get one quick ring before it's blocked, but that's it.

If the call isn't on your block list it will tell you if the call is "suspected spam" by checking that number against their own list of reported spam numbers. Then it pops up a little symbol to inform you, so you know not to pick it up. With a press of a button, you can add that number to your block list, and they'll never get through again. If you get a call that's spam and hasn't been reported yet, then you can add that to your blocklist and it will be reported back to Mr. Number.

I also have it set to direct all private numbers to voicemail.

I found out about this because I recently got a new number from Sprint and the f***ers gave me a number that's on every telemarketing scam list in the world evidently. I was getting 20-30 junk calls a day. I'm down to maybe 1 or 2 a day and even those are blocked now. I actually enjoy getting the occasional new junk caller because then I get to report and block them.

If everybody used a reporting call blocker app like this, those junk callers would be out of business. I just wish the cell carriers would just build this into their service. There's really no excuse for them not to do this.

Great info. I, unfortunately, have a dumb phone for now. But, this info will help most other readers. And when I finally get a smart phone, I will definitely get this app.

I just hit "ignore" and they never leave a message. I wish there was a way to make it not ring, though.

I agree that it's weird that cell providers don't have the option to block calls.

For email spam I've done pretty well using an extra junk address for any sort of sign up requests I don't intend to use a lot. For my main inbox I try keep up with un-subscribe and marking things as spam or phish. I get less than 3 spams per day on average. Occasionally there is a wave and I just make a point to opt out as they come in and then it goes away after a few days.

For snail mail, I can't do anything but I use a P.O. box and the trash can is right there so no biggie. It is annoying though.
