I am buying an apartment in north San Jose. Is it a good area? Does this area tend to increase or decrease its value? Is $300,000 a good price for an apartment of 670 sf? Do you think I can buy something better for this amount?
The apartment is in great condition. Your responses are very valuable because I am a first time buyer.

That's not very expensive and it's in SJ, where prices have remained pretty stable when compared to the Central Valley. Berryessa is also a decent area, as it's typically not grouped into East San Jose when referencing the so-called "bad side of town."

I'm going to stand up for my fellow Realtors. If you are a first time buyer, you really need to have the assistance of someone who knows the ins and outs of buying a condo (I assume it's a condo as you referred to it as an apartment).

It won't cost you anymore as the seller pays the agents commission. I'm not familiar with any agents down there, so I can't help you on that account.

Good Luck !

I use to live in that area years back. The population is mostly Asian and Hispanic, but pretty safe. If its the condos on Capitol/Berryessa, that complex is decent but a little noisy from the light rail. Otherwise a good buy if your single and want to live in San Jose close to 680.

Capitol/Berryessa is a heavily Asian area, and that's pretty much the theme going all the way to Milpitas. I would never call it dangerous - San Jose is one of the safest large metros in the USA. The only issue is that it can look kind of run down and depressing, and many San Jose residents seem to love loud music with tons of bass.
