VTA is exploring running a bus direct from downtown to SJC.

And the taxicab companies aren't flipping out over this? Granted, it's not a big fare to downtown, but I would think they'd go ballistic upon hearing this.

Yes. Moving from Fremont CA to Austin Tx in the nice suburb area.

Been living in Sunnyvale for 8 years, Fremont for 8 years, and now leaving the Bay Area.
Reasons
1. SFH 1M+, cannot afford adding more into the mortgage I already have.
2. Dislike the fast pace of life rather spend more time with kids
3. School are either too competitive, ESL students, or kids/Parents don't care.
4. Getting over crowded
5. Weather isn't really that nice, always windy and cold where i live
6. Good hiking and biking in the South Bay and Parts of pennisula, really not much near my house in Fremont. East bay looks so dead during summer, nothing is green.

I wonder if some of you who really loves the Bay Area have been anywhere else. Many people I know doesn't like it here and would never buy or raise kids here.

I have lived in Denver. Hated it. For 6 months of the year the only colors you see are brown, white, and green. Growing season starts in May with snow by Halloween. Yeah it's cheaper but housing is cheaper everywhere. You can buy a big beautiful house for less and you will be spending most of your time inside due to the inhospitable weather. Drivers are worse than here if you can believe it. There are restrictions on wood-burning fireplaces, too!

I can't believe anyone would think the weather in Fremont is worse than Austin (#5). And I'm not sure Austin does any better for hiking, either (#6). But all the other reasons make a lot of sense. The prohibitive housing costs make the Bay Are a poor place to raise kids unless you are loaded or have inherited money or a house.

I agree with you, one of the biggest draw backs to Texas is the super warm weather. I have read a lot about schools in Austin and it seems to be very positive (compared to Silly Valley).

Very same reasons I moved from Sunnyvale to Los Angeles. Housing is much better here compared to there.

For most families, affordable housing and decent schools trump weather.

But were you able to have the same or better salary? I hear the pay is also lower in L.A. for most jobs.
