@jonlovet - I am moving to Bay Area for personal reasons. Although I love Phoenix. Real Estate is pretty affordable here. Everything is close-by and the weather isnt too bad expect for 3 months in summer.

@jk88cal - I have a Master's Degree. But you are right. 125k is unheard of at least with a 4 yr experience in semiconductor industry. Unless you were recruited by Apple/Google or some start up.

@sprtgrl22- 8% bump to the base salary plus moving allowance does not sound bad to me.

I earned less than half 100K last year and I saved around 15K. Granted, someone just moving here is going to pay more for rent, etc. than someone who's established. But even so, if you make saving a priority, you can definitely save a good amount if you make 100K.

8% is less than the increase in COL. However, you mentioned that you're moving for personal reasons, so it might still be reasonable, that's of course up to you.

I would say that you need at least $110k to have a reasonable comparison to $88k in Phoneix.

I believe you are single and staying in 1bed apartment with 4-5 people away from city. Dont have any car/educational loan etc. otherwise saving 15 k out of 50k income is impossible. Tax itself will be 20k or so. Can you enlist your approximate bills and the way you saved ?
