You should move over to San Jose. I'm sure you'll love the absurd heat and smog to cheer you up.

And the flat, tract-home sprawl with beautiful strip malls really adds to its appeal.

And where would one find this in San Jose?:

My local beach on a packed summer day, BTW:

You're right, San Diego is pretty ugly. I live in Leucadia, BTW.

Those two non-beach pics could easily be anywhere around here. As for the beach, it's 45 minutes away. The city should be downgraded because it's not in city limits? That's like saying San Francisco sucks for not having an airport.

I'm not a fan of downtown San Diego. Too crowded, too much cement. I prefer coastal north county, where those pics are.

The beach might be a 45 minute drive from San Jose, but it's a 5 minute walk from my house.

So why do you insist on separating San Jose from Santa Cruz but your beachside Republican convention lends all its attributes to the glorification of San Diego?

Am very well versed with Santa Cruz and San Jose although we relocated to Boise, ID back in August 2002. If given the choice, would definately live in Santa Cruz rather than San Jose.

I lived in Santa Cruz for 7-years, and in the Blossom Valley area of San Jose for 16-years. Both SC and SJ have their pros and cons. However, the commute, especially during inclement weather, is not something to be savored.

In fact, we have a friend who lives in San Jose, and commutes to her job in Santa Cruz (reverse commute) which has made a nervous wreck out of her.

You could look into the communities on the Hwy 9 corrider from Santa Cruz to Boulder Creek. Bear Creek Rd, which winds 13 miles from Boulder Creek to the Hwy 17 jct (3 miles north of Lark Ave), takes 21 minutes on a good day unless congested with commuters.

However, Hwy 9 does have quite a lot of traffic during the daily commute. It's a narrow, 2-lane road albeit scenic so allow plenty of time.

If your daughter is accepted by UCSC then it's in her own best interest to live within, say, 30 minutes of the campus.
