From north San Jose, I assume you are taking 880 or perhaps 680 south to 280 north. Unfortunately, the surface streets are all very slow in central San Jose. You could try Mabury/Taylor until it turns into Naglee and then Forest, and park on the back side of the mall.

Depends where in north San Jose.

I used to live by Santa Clara University, right on the border of San Jose, and it wasn't bad taking Homestead to either Monroe or Winchester.

Avoid Stevens Creek. You get stuck at every single stop light.

If you can give an intersection you'd be starting from, I might be able to give you some side streets that aren't too busy.

BTW, Winchester, on the other side of Stevens Creek is busy, so you wouldn't want to come up that way. But, it's not bad on the other side, coming from Santa Clara.

I don't know a route from N.SJ on streets, but if you can get to Bascom, then take that to Naglee/Forest; or Hedding to Winchester. Honestly, though, it doesn't seem so bad right now assuming you are starting work at typical mall times and not stuck during morning rush hour commute. During the holidays freeway exiting near the mall will be a total nightmare though.
