Perhaps I consider Cupertino - and need your advice
Hi Everyone
I’m seeking some answers/Advices for sake of not making mistake
I have a Job offer possibility in Cupertino
If I take the job, I will be relocating on my own cost from Europe to CA- Cupertino { that part of relocating cost is OK with me }
OK I understand the live in Europe is much relaxed and our system is supportive, but it is just an opportunity that I may take in case the living cost is adjusted to the salary.
In case I take the job
I’m married; we will be relocating to Cupertino, with our little dog
- We will not buy a house, or even think about it! We will be fine in 1BD or 2 BD rent apartment.
If I accept the Job which will be Annual gross Income of 130K
Do you think guys I could live secure on that income?
Have to mention we may have baby soon …
** How much Car will cost, (not the cost of the car itself, the maintenance, , Fuel cost , Insurance, 50 Miles / day driving ?
** How much we need for food? (Going out 4-6 Times a month to normal restaurant)?
*** With That Annual income 130K, how much I will earn a month (estimate – counting my wife will not work)? Net (after they cut the Tax and all other Numbers)?
Thanks in advance

You could live quite comfortable, IMO, if you have no plan to buy a house. When you are trying to find an apt, stay away from Cupertino which is super expensive. Try Sunnyvale or Campbell.
You may have about seven thousands left after tax, 401k, etc. deductions.
car: $400
food: $1200
rent: $1500 (not sure)
It all depends on how you spend. Good luck.

Here are some facts for you - not necessarily good or bad:
Figure you'll pay about 33% of your gross income on federal and state tax. Your employer will withhold this amount plus extra every pay period and you'll get back the difference (if there is any) at the end of the year when you "do" your taxes. So expect a monthly check of roughly $7,200
Gas is $0.84/litre (~$3.20/gal) and cars here are bigger and get worse mileage than Euro cars.
An average priced dinner out for two with a glass of wine will be $50 with tip.
Lots of Asian restaurants to choose from in or near Cupertino.
Lots of Asian people (85%) living in or around Cupertino.
With the exception of downtown San Jose, Campbell, or Los Gatos there is no central "downtown" in Cupertino or surrounding cities - you have to drive everywhere and there are parking lots everywhere. It's much different than a European city.
Most employers will pay for your medical/dental/vision health insurance and you will generally pay a small amount a month to contribute to the cost. It might be between 0 and $50 per month. If you add a spouse to your coverage it might be another $50 - $100 per month. If your employer doesn't cover health benefits it may cost you around $600 per month for those benefits.

Missingcol / Moovin
Thank you very much for your reply
That is very helpful
I will for sure look for apartment in those two mentioned area to reduce cost compare to Cupertino.
Honestly living in 1.5-2 Bedroom apartments and not thinking to buy a house is not hard, in any case house value in Europe is almost unaffordable like CA … so from that point of view nothing will change from my standards …
However I wished to have that position with Salary range in Houston then It would be a great opportunity to buy a house but that is just not a realistic wish …
It seems like not a bad idea at the end, specially the job position is worth to take it and add value to my CV …
Thanks Again

You may also try downtown Mountain View, or Los Gatos. If you are younger, these areas seem more vibrant than the typical suburban feel of Silicon Valley.

Thanks Luke9686
Is there a place close to Cupertino that I could commute, middle of no where (farm side) country side, forest, something like Redwood area where the townhouse renting affordable?
I know some people hate it to be away from the city, I’m 180 degree opposite, if you put me in place within the nature and trees and forest I will be so excited

You could try the Los Gatos area. It is a lovely area that is very in touch with nature.
Good Luck!

I second Los Gatos! We lived in Los Gatos for about a year before moving back to Ohio (mistake!). The mountains are green year round and it's beautiful, close to Santa Cruz. Los Gatos has a nice downtown with lots of small shopping stores. LG has several nice grocery stores and it's not far from Oakridge mall.
I'm sure you'll love it as much as we did!! Good Luck and congratulations on your upcoming baby!
