Which route is best for a Monday mid-day commute? We are looking to arrive in San Fran near AT&T Park by 12:30PM. I've never done this drive before and don't want to rely on google maps for commute times.

1. Should we take 101 or 280?
2. What time should we leave downtown mountain view in order to arrive in San Fran by 12:30?

Thx

Take Caltrain if you want it to be predictable, but most of the time, that drive should be smooth sailing on 101. You'd be going at the only time of the day that it is typically clear, and in theory, also leaving to return to MV late enough that it won't be a problem. Give yourself 50-60 minutes just in case anything weird happens.

I prefer 280, I think it's a little longer, but it's better looking and I have terrible 101 luck.

ITA, take the train, especially if you can get a bullet train back.

it should take you between 45 mins to 1 hour with either route assuming mid-day travel. but always check waze before you leave just incase something has gone wrong with a freeway (generally 101). i find waze to be creepily accurate on arrival time. and don't forget to factor in time for parking!

Whenever I've taken a senior bus trip from Santa Clara to San Francisco, the bus always takes 280, so I'd guess it's regularly smoother sailing.

It's also a really pretty drive.

Take 280, and keep 280 to downtown, ( not 80) when arrive to SF. Take exit 4th will lead you to AT&T park area. 280 is little longer, 5' extra, but it's reliable route. Also it depends where you are leaving... is it closed to 280 or 101? In middle of the day, you should have no problem with traffic either and should take 50' or less to get there.

101, unless there is accident.

101 without slowdown (which is likely the case during mid-day weekday) will be way faster than 280. 101 with slowdown (not accident) will be similar to 280. 101 with accident can be longer than 280.
