Los Gatos and Saratoga both are upscale, pricey communities. $1.5 million doesn't go as far as one might hope.

Here is an example of what you get for $1.5 million in Saratoga:

18658 Casa Blanca Ln, Saratoga, CA 95070 | MLS #81585909 | Zillow

18709 Mccoy Ave, Saratoga, CA 95070 | MLS #81588784 | Zillow

18314 Baylor Ave, Saratoga, CA 95070 | MLS #446885 | Zillow

Here are a few examples of what you get for $1.5 million in Los Gatos:

16611 Ferris Ave, Los Gatos, CA 95032 | MLS #ML81590336 | Zillow

163 Belcrest Dr, Los Gatos, CA 95032 | MLS #81588766 | Zillow

221 Beethoven Ln, Los Gatos, CA 95032 | MLS #81590483 | Zillow

112 Creekside Village Dr, Los Gatos, CA 95032 | MLS #81580180 | Zillow

How about living in Santa Cruz and looking for a position at UC Santa Cruz? Highway 17 is one of the worst roads to drive with a lot of accidents. Imagine driving this at night in the rain in December.
