Very few people move in here to retire, due to the CoL. Most discussions about retirement around here are when will I leave and where will I migrate to.

The other retirees you will encounter, in your age bracket, will be those few who bought homes when they were young adults and never moved, some who inherited homes, some who hit the jackpot in Silicon Valley, and, relatively recent immigrants who want the area's diversity (and typically can count on having multiple generations hanging out close by).

Try Seattle or Portland. You won't find anything that's affordable in Silicon Valley, or anywhere in the Bay Area.

I lived in Oregon. Nice place, but beware of the long cloudy winters.

Yeah, but Portland (which is probably the most expensive in Oregon) is like 1/3 of the cost of anywhere in Silicon Valley. It's also by some nice beaches.
