cheap/safe hotels @ mount.view/san jose (Sunnyvale, Santa Clara: travel, business)

hey again,
i've got 2 interviews the 1st wk of jan. one's in mountain view & the other's in san jose (close to 880 & 280 fways).

anyone know of any cheap but fairly safe hotels in the area?

There are lots of standard motels/hotels along El Camino Real, in both Mtn. View and San Jose... don't know any specific ones off-hand, but I'd assume the Mtn. View ones are all safe, since it's generally a safe town.

As for San Jose, I'd just stay closer to 280/880, rather than 101/880 - those will most likely be safer & cleaner. Possibly look around Steven's Creek Blvd., or again on El Camino... staying on that road is usually fine, since it's the "main drag" through the Peninsula (criminal types tend to avoid it b/c of police presence!).

There are plenty to choose from, just stay away from those located on Monterey Highway in San Jose which probably aren't that bad anyway.
If you want to stay mid point to those locations, consider something in the city of Santa Clara or Sunnyvale.
Not sure what you consider cheap as everything is costlier here.
I've seen motel rates lower on the weekends because they are busier during the week for business travelers.
Motels along the El Camino may be the least expensive but are not as close to 280 as others.

There's a Motel 6 on Mathilda Ave in Sunnyvale (between Mountain View and San Jose). It's a couple of hundred yards from the Mathilda Ave exit on Hwy 101, so it's easy access to the freeway and easy to find. There are also a couple of restaurants nearby. I suppose Motel 6 is as cheap a place to stay as any.
