Hi everyone! I received a job offer and I am moving from the East coast to San Jose, CA. I have been warned about high cost of living, traffic, etc... in the Bay area. Two questions:

1. Can anyone suggest furnished short term rentals (not Airbnb)
2. For any Marketing Managers working in the Bay area, can anyone share what the average salary is?

Thanks!

Advertised corporate furnished short term rentals are going to cost an arm and a leg... Can I ask why you would avoid airbnb? You are more likely to find something at a lower price there. Monthly rates are often much lower than renting nightly through airbnb. We've been renting through airbnb & vrbo over the past year (we sold our house last summer and have been traveling full time). We try to stay at least a month, and have gotten up to a 60% discount. If you are really trying to save, renting a room is another option until you are able to find something more permanent.

Thanks for the advice! I am not against Airbnb, in fact, I may very well end up for a month until I find something permanent. Have you had any success renting fully furnished month to month on VRBO?

I have rented two separate places for a month through VRBO, but I've had to negotiate the monthly rate directly with the owner before booking. There is nothing wrong with negotiating, I just find the airbnb monthly rentals to be easier and more straightforward. It's also good to note that if it is an "off season" you can also negotiate further discounts if you are staying a month+. Doesn't hurt to ask.

What period do you consider as short-term? If more than a month or two, It can be more cost-efficient just buy a basic mattress, chair and table with free delivery from Walmart.

Also, try to look at extended stay hotels since it can be chipper option compare to renting a furnished apartment in apartment complex. Not all of them are places for drug users and homeless people. There are quite nice as well (read reviews online aka Booking.com etc)

When I relocate, I rent at the Extended Stay Americas. When I was relocating to the Santa Clara/San Jose area, I rented first at the Fremont one, then the one in Santa Clara at 2131 Gold St, San Jose, CA 95002. It's a San Jose address, but is in north San Jose, right next to Santa Clara.

Both were convenient and you get a discount if you stay 30 days or longer - different tax break. They also let me change rooms if someone noisy was next to me. I've always been satisfied with them. Once you look at everything that's included, they're not that bad a deal - especially if you stay 30 days or longer. And you can use a credit card.

Residence Inn? Also review your relocation package, too. Some come with a certain amount of furnished housing for places like that.
