Move to Milpitas
Hi,
I am planning to buy a Single family house in Milpitas. Appreciate your feedback on following:-
1) Which are good elementary school?
2) Is milpitas build on waste land and hence it smells in summer?
Is the smell unberable ?
3) What is good location to stay? Next to 680 ?
Thank you

I've been gone from San Jose for a few years, and perhaps someone has more current information, but when I lived there, Milpitas definitely had a certain, uh, scent. Especially in the summer, when winds blew in a certain direction.
If the Newby Island landfill is still in operation, you want to live as far as possible from it.

Milpitas has good schools, but the further west the more it smells. The landfill is at 237 & Zanker and it stinks badly. The best areas are almost all right around Piedmont Road.

Hey I don't want to take this too far off topic, but I had a question regarding the landfill that was just mentioned. I was looking some apartments around Montague and Lafayette, and I was wondering if this area would be strongly effected by the odor? It looks like its about 3 miles SW of the Zanker road landfill. Its west of the landfill which I think would help me be upwind of it, but does anyone from that area have any experience? I went to visit in the spring and I didn't notice anything, but apparently its worst in the summer.
Thanks for any reply.

Yeah that area might be affected by it as well. If I could smell it walking outside my work at Montague & First, you could probably smell it a few miles west in Santa Clara too.

Hello, lived here for the past 20+ years. Raised two sons here. Area best to stay near 680 exit calaveras and check around the yellowstone-peidmont area or the great mall area, but not pines. There are pleanty of nice neighborhoods here but also some shady type areas as well. I have lived here since I was 11 so I love and am only sad to the amount of stores and shops with signs that I cant read as they are in a different language. Diversity is crazy here-yet we all live together happy!
Best elementary school by far is Sinnot. The best jr. high rancho as they have won teacher of year awards and also been awarded for its impovement and is one of the schools to watch.
Yes, it smells here especially when hot.
Good area to live-area close to Milpitas foot hills near pedimont.
Stay clear of dempsey, pines...they are now building lots of nice condos and family homes near great mall area. Milpitas is growing and will soon be on the map.
The down side is that it was once a small town and the roads have not kept up with the amount of traffic and new homes being built.
