Default Commute question

Wife and I are moving to the Bay Area this summer. I am looking at living in one of the peninsula cities near the San Mateo bridge. If she get a job in San Jose, what kind of commute time would she be looking at? What about the other direction if she ends up in San Francisco? Is commuting by train an option either direction? If so, how long of a ride would that be?

Thanks for the info!

The southbound commute is lousy between 92 and Palo Alto, a bit better south of there. It would be about an hour. As for the other direction, the traffic tends to free up after Millbrae Avenue, so it's mainly dependent on how deep into the city she'll have to go on city streets. Assuming she's right off the freeway, that would only be a half-hour from 92 to downtown Mission Street.

I commute from San Jose to Redwood City (north) on 101 every day - takes about 25 minutes. If you can start your commute before 7:15 AM (ideally 7 AM), the traffic is great. Perhaps your wife can get a job where she can start earlier than usual. I'm an executive assistant and have been starting my work day at 7:30 for years at different companies, because of the commute.
