I know nothing about northern California. We're considering moving there to be near an airline job. We're looking for a commute under 1 1/2 hours and a small/medium size community. Our kids are grown and we like the outdoors. Any thoughts on where to start?

I live about a mile from that airport. If your budget would allow it, I would suggest Pacifica or Half Moon Bay - smaller, coastal communities that are not too far from there and have great access to San Mateo County's vast expanses of parkland.

Thank you for the reply. I'll start there. Anybody else have any suggestions?

Brisbane is an adorable little town, just a few miles from SFO... you could also look in Foster City, Burlingame, Millbrae, San Mateo, San Carlos, Belmont, and possibly across the bay in Alameda or thereabouts. Even better, if you can find something near a BART station, that will be SUPER easy getting to work - they have a stop at the airport, so that would be wonderful.

Btw, I lived in Pacifica once and totally loved it, so I'd agree with that suggestion from sonarrat. HMB is a really cute place too, but the drive can be treacherous and/or slow, depending on the time of year and weather... Pacifica gets even more fog than they do, but the road coming from there (hwy 1 or 35) is easier to navigate without visibility (versus 92 from HMB).

If you are still looking, my wife and I are renting out two rooms in our newly built home in Millbrae, CA, 2 miles from SFO.
