Default sanjose schools after school (elementary)

Hi,
Am moving from toronto to San jose soon. We have a son of 6 years old (will be going to kindergarten) this year. I have following questions. Can you please help-

1) Being a working couple, wondering if we can keep my son in the after school program (or daycare) till 5pm?

2) Will all public elementary schools have a program to keep the kids upto 5pm? Usually howmuch they charge for month?

3) Can we get a 2 bedroom apartments for rent in good school districts around sanjose for 2000$?

Your answers will be highly appreciated..

Thanks
Swami

Hi there. I can only answer #1 - most schools offer after school program, like my school. It will let you pick up your child anytime before five. However, I don't know how much it cost. Also, since a lot of people applied for my school's program, we had to use the lottery system to determine who is eligible. This is a shame, especially when we are facing a huge cut in our budget. For next school year, we'll have less openings available.
So, cuts hurt! Teachers from all over California will be having peaceful demonstrations tomorrow afternoon to show our concerns to the public! I'm sure we'll be able to offer more kids after school programs if we had enough fund!
I hope my answer isn't too discouraging!

You should be able to find a nice place in a good school district for $2,000 per month. Cupertino, Campbell and Santa Clara have good schools. I'm sure Saratoga and Los Gatos have good schools too.

Check the rental section of Craigslist.com, thats what everybody in the bay area uses to advertise.

I just double checked with my school (in the east side of San Jose), and the cost for both morning and afternoon (until 6pm) child care is around $150 a week.
