I have a son transfering to Palmer West Chiro. College south of the 237. Looking to rent studio or 1 bedroom in the area or close by. Is this a safe area? Shopping close by? Gyms?

There is not much residiential in the area near Palmer. It's mostly commercial.

Santa Clara would be a good bet. So would North San Jose, but further south of the campus. North of San Carlos, East of 880 and West of 87. You can go west of 880 too, but that's a different neighborhood.

There are not many bad areas in San Jose. Just stay away from the east side.

That's right on the light-rail line, so I would be looking into the Milpitas, Berryessa district of SJ kind of area.

I would much rather live on the east side than north San Jose. It's a bland, industrial wasteland of flatness and smog.

What do you consider north? I am talking more north-central I guess. The area near The Alameda. That area is by far an industrial wasteland. Unless you consider beautiful million dollar spanish style homes wasteland.

Also, I would check Craigslist for rentals. I'm not sure what the school provides, but in the bay most people use Craigslist for lots of things.
