Everyone is being a little harsh, but I must say your post is rather odd. Why would every single man in SJ be the same? Have you experienced meeting clones before? Not being rude or judging you, just asking.

While I don't buy into stereotypes I think certain areas have trends or a higher concentration of certain people groups. And the SV has one of the highest concentration of software/hardware engineers in the world. And many young driven IT folks end up working long hours chasing the golden carrot and/or gaming, playing with their latest iPhone, etc... It sort of goes hand and hand with the business.
Of course there are exceptions to this even within IT, hence the objections to stereotyping a whole city of males based on a higher concentration of these types of ppl. I speak from experience working in IT for ~10 years. And some of the stereotypes have a degree a truth to them. Years ago it used to be Star Trek and Klingon conventions. Now it is gaming and Mac conventions that are the rage. It is kind of funny to listen to those who have 'drank the kool aid' and are so passionate about their latest game or Mac toy. I am not saying these things are bad in and of themselves. Everyone has hobbies. But it is just funny how extreme some take it.

I wasn't saying they were all the same. Just asking where I would have better odds.

Flaky, no. Make sure you ask what they're looking for, so you don't assume their dating you means they want a relationship.
Also, regarding committment-phobic, these guys are making alot of money and don't want to give half of their after-tax income to some golddigger, so if you mistake caution for phobia, you will lose. But I know you're not one of those...

I think there is definite truth to the stereotypes. If you are looking for a "professional" male, you're most likely to meet an engineer or computer guy and they tend to like to talk about tech gadgets and are into science fiction movies, etc. They do tend to have weaker than average social skills. Obviously, this is not true of all, but yes, I do think there's truth to the stereotype.
This is from the perspective of a gay man, so take that for what it's worth.
That said, you only need one good guy.

Yes, the stereotype is higher in this part of the country/state but I wouldn't say it comes close to a majority of the population. There are plenty of non-nerdy/non-gaming type but flakey goes with this territory too and you will most likely have to wade through many of them.

wow how old are you? even i find this very ignorant.
you are making a fat generalization of almost(or more than?) a million people. how are you going SAY THAT. "not into gaming and stuff right?" wow come on. we've got the best we've got the worst and everything inbetween.
this might sound biased but i think san jose would be a great place for meeting people. the downtown area is nice, and its smackdab in the bay.

San Jose has the Bay Area's largest sausage market. If a gal can't find a decent guy easily out there I'd wonder what might be wrong with her.
If there was another part of the Bay Area with such a skewed ratio of men/women, but in favor of males' prospects, I woulda been like the proverbial 'kid in a candy store.' In fact, if anyone here knows of ANY area with such a disproportionate population of women/men as SJ has of the reverse, let me know so my buds and I can plan our next fishing trip.

Ellen,
You are *so* right! Stereotypes exist for a reason. SJ is FULL of nerdy Engineers. They are bad in bed, have no social skills, are as charming as Steve Urkel and have nothing to offer except for $ which doesn't go a long way due to the high cost of living.
And, in SF they're either gay or cheaters/players or ugly hippies.
It's so sad. Try LA maybe?
