Default Commute From Alameda?

I am hoping to get a job in San Jose but am considering moving to Alameda since I heard it is a nice town. Would that be a ridiculous commute? If I get transferred to the SF office from San Jose I would be even closer to work. While working in San Jose I just don't want to be on the road for more than 40 minutes each way.

thanks.

If 40 minutes is your limit, Alameda would be a terrible decision. The commute can easily be over an hour. If you throw in a wreck, it can almost double.

It can take 40 minutes just to get from one end of San Jose to the other at times, let alone get anywhere else. 880 will eat you alive if you try to commute on it every day, even now with less cars on the road due to high gas prices it is still jam-packed.
