I went to Aptos high back in the 70's and was looking to move back into the SC area hoping to find the school (like Aptos back then) and what you described. I have been reseraching and talking with old friends still there and was shocked at what I found: a tremendous influx of hispanics, a huge drop in school funding and subsequent decrease in support and interest in non-essential prgrams (sports, electives). An interesting method of judging what kind of student body is attending is to look for your school on Harbor High School - Santa Cruz, California/CA - Public School Review and look at the percentage of free lunchs as well as the correlation to ethnic breakdown. It appears what I was looking for has disappeared and have be forced to look in smaller inland communities. An example that I found was Oakrdige high in El Dorado hills CAhttp://www.publicschoolreview.com/school_ov/school_id/6893. A bonus for this area is that I could find about twice the value for housing dollar there...downside: no ocean. Good luck.

Perhaps their kids have graduated by now?

Btw, it's just my impression that the Soquel public school system is one of the better ones in the county but i don't know. I don't have kids.
