Default Neighborhoods of San Jose with some nightlife?

I moved down here to Santa Clara a few months ago, the reason I moved to this particular area is that my brother was going to the university here but he has since moved back home.. I don't like the area as its just bland suburbia with nothing to do. I am going to be going to SJSU next fall (I'm 23 already) so I want to live in an area where there is some nightlife but not the pretentious, super rich type of people you would find at Santana Row.

I'm from northern California so I'm not some techie dork who moved here from across the country (although I do have some interests in web development), but basically I'd like to meet people who are like me and girls who are 25 and under and not gold diggers.. any suggestions?

Live on campus at SJSU, that will be the most immersive experience.. when I was an undergrad there, there also seemed to be a lot of students living around the Ohlone/Chynoweth Station, next to the Oakridge mall, but that seems just as much like bland suburbia to me. Most of the nightlife areas tend towards slightly older crowds.

Wander on down to Santa Cruz Ave. in Los Gatos or Murphy in Sunnyvale for a little change of flavor, but downtown SJ is the way to go. You just have to dig a little to find your kind of place/people down there.
