Default Union City

I've never lived in the East Bay, but I did a test commute on I-880 at 4 pm just to see what the "Nasty Nimitz" really is like during peak travel times. Surprise, surprise, it moved at the limit the whole way. I could see the traffic stopping right after I got off at Decoto Road, but it was a good 15 miles of smooth sailing. I got onto the freeway at Montague, and I was into the number streets on Decoto within 20 minutes of leaving the office. I can only get to Evergreen that fast at 3 am. Why do I live here again? Oh yeah, the family thing..

I drove around in those number streets a bit. Decoto is the low property value part of the town, with so-so schools, freight train noise and congestion, but the homes and yards looked better kept than they do in my part of San Jose, and certainly much better than the parts of SJ that are in the same price range. It was actually pretty striking.

Thumbs up to Union City. Hope the traffic stays that light for you East Bay folks for a while longer.
