Affordable Apartment Rents In San Jose? (Fremont, Sunnyvale: rent, credit report, house)

Are there any affordable apartment rents in San Jose? I was looking at rents at they seem to average approx. $1,500 per month for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment which is a bit high for me. Is it possible to find 2+2's in San Jose for $1,000 month that are decent buildings and in a nice area that is safe to live, or do you have to be rich to live there?

Highly unlikely. I think the cheapest "decent" in a 2+2 will start at around $1300.

Plenty of non-rich people live in that town, and it's considered less expensive by our standards. But $1000 for a 2-bedroom will be tough, especially if you want a "nice" neighborhood... I used to pay $900 for a 2/2, but was in the very dangerous city of East Palo Alto! You might get lucky & find something in nearby Sunnyvale, Santa Clara or Mountain View - but chances are, you'll need at least $1200-1500 for what you're seeking.

I use to live in the area back in 2002. The cheapest rents I paid in good areas were at least 1500 a month for a 2/2. I could imagine its more expensive now... this is the reason I moved. Sunnyvale, Cupertino,Cambell, West San Jose are good areas to look.

cupertino is not that far from san jose and pretty nice to live. i live there and the apartments are okay priced in my opinion but I don't know any complexes ... sorry on that end.

One bedrooms in my decent apartment complex go for over $1000 a month. I'm not sure what they're asking for 2 Bedrooms. But at a bare minimum, I think the best you'll do is $1200 for a 2BR 2BA for something decent, and that's if you're lucky.
