I shop at the SJ Marketplace a block over at Taylor and Coleman sometimes. At least on that side of the tracks, the noise is deafening. I would not live there if I thought it might bother me. I did live in the SFO flight path for a while, which had jets flying over me all night long, and I adjusted to it pretty quickly, so it's down to your comfort level. It's a very pretty and nice area, close to the Rose Garden and the Bellarmine private school. I looked at the street view for Asbury and it looked attractive.

Campbell - 0, With the exception of police helicopters circling, now and then. :/ I never hear Airport airplanes.

I'll bet Mountain View gets Moffett noise. We heard that behemoth of a cargo plane circling all the time in Cupertino.

Most of the noise will be north of SJC, as the departures (during normal flight conditions, 85% of the time) will be to the north, while approach will be from the south. When the wind shifts, the departures will be to the south. The noise is prevalent in some areas of Santa Clara, such as near Great America Park.

I don't see there being considerable aircraft noise out of SJC. The days of the 727's, 737-200's, and the MD-80's are all gone. The domestic jets that have replaced them are FAR more quieter. Unless SJC has 747s , A330's, A340's, or 777s then I can't see there being a major issue with aircraft noise.

SFO is a different story with long haul flights taking off from the 28's and flying over San Bruno and South San Francisco and to a lesser extent Daly City.

ANA has direct service between SJC-NRT (Narita Airport) using the 787 aircraft.

True, the 787 is a cutting edge aircraft that's much quieter than most other long haul aircraft.

The neighbors around SJC are grateful for that.

I live in Santa Cruz right on the water. The airplane noise here I'd say is 3. There's a large volume of planes coming in on the same flight path off the Pacific going to 4!!! different airports. Coming off the water the noise is weird and hits you all at once. I like planes so I find it cool. But my dad thinks it is a bit annoying.

I noticed while hiking there's a notch in the mountains near Pescadero where all the northbound flights to SFO need to go between two peaks, turn right, and go between a few more in order to stay low enough to land in San Fran. Also planes taking off northbound from SJ sometimes use this path to get to the Pacific before heading north or west over the ocean. Bigger heavier planes mostly. Cargo planes. Strange places to have airplane noise right?? Cool how low (relatively) they are though.

If you're concerned about the noise move to SJ. They have lots of rules to that airport to keep the noise low. It closes to departing planes at 8 or 9?

Opens again at 5am? I'm not sure but that's when I hear planes going to SJ.

Look up the flight paths yourself. Freedom of information homie.

Ohhh and like the other posters chimed. San Carlos and the south bay in general get lots of noise. Even if you live where there aren't people like Portola Valley. Hard to escape it. Even in Carmel... Don't move to the foothills of San Miguel, or Morgan Hill either.

It's impossible to get a 0/10 in most places in the South Bay. Seriously. Anywhere you go. There's usually daily flights.
