What can you tell me about the Del Mar area of San Jose?
I'm considering buying a townhouse near Del Mar High School. Can anyone tell me about that area? How are crime rates? I'm a single female, so safety is very important to me. How is it living there in general? Any thoughts/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

There's a Del Mar HS in both Campbell and San Jose.. if it's a townhouse, I assume you mean the one at 1224 Del Mar Ave, Campbell, not many townhouses downtown. The neighborhood you're likely talking about is called Fruitdale. It's a great area for younger singles, safe but also close to the light-rail for easy access to Campbell and downtown SJ.

To be more specific...
Sorry, I didn't realize - should have been a bit more specific about the area. I'm talking about the Del Mar High School on Stokes Street, on the border of Campbell and San Jose. Is that the area you were talking about, sonarrat? Thanks!

I lived in an apartment on Fruitdale near Del Mar from 1988-2005. (Now I live 1 mile north of that.) I often walked or biked past Del Mar & Stokes. It is a very safe area, I never worried about my personal safety. Though I did have my car broken into about every two years. But the townhouse probably has secure parking, so that shouldn't be a problem for you. The city plans to redevelop the dilapidated shopping center behind the townhouses. So I would expect property values would increase after that. The colorful San Jose Bike Party meets at that shopping center once a month. It's a nice location convenient to shopping, supermarkets, the new light rail station, and very close to the Los Gatos Creek Trail. A new library is under construction within walking distance. It's close to Hwy 17 and I-280, so you can quickly get to other places in the Bay Area. You can get downtown in a few minutes for any nightlife, dining, or cultural activities.

Yep, that's the one. There is a listing for Del Mar High in SJ on Google which doesn't actually exist, just wanted to make sure you weren't going off of that one.
