Alameda, Dublin, Fremont, or ???
I have been living in Mountain View for over seven years now. I am a single male and I just sold my town home. I am looking to relocate because of work. My price range is $700-750k.
For work I spend a couple of days a week working up near Jack London Square and a couple of days working off Lundy Place in San Jose. It is pretty random when I will be where.
I am searching for a home or town home that is in between Oakland and North San Jose. My work hours are from 7am to 4pm, so I am able to miss some of the worst commute times. However I really don't enjoy the 880 commute from Oakland to Mountain View.
I have recently been looking at homes in Alameda, Dublin, and Fremont. Alameda would be convenient for the days that I work in Oakland but I think the commute down to San Jose and back would be really bad. Fremont is a good central location but the homes I have seen in Fremont don't seem to be as nice as what I have viewed in Alameda and Dublin. Fremont also seems to be a pretty boring place to live. Dublin is nice but I am concerned that the 580 commute to Oakland and the 680 commute to San Jose will be worse than my current 880 commute.
The questions I have are:
Is the Dublin to both Oakland and North San Jose commute really bad during the early commute hours?
Am I missing something about Fremont or is it just home after home after home?
If you had to rank the three options I have (Alameda, Fremont, Dublin) how would you rank them?
Which of the locations is going to be best for a singe person?
Thanks!

If it were my choice, I'd rather live in Alameda and deal with a crappy commute half the time, then hardly any commute the rest of the time. If I could expand your choices a bit, San Lorenzo is a cut above the surrounding towns and has a long, storied history. It's a hidden gem. Most of the homes are smaller; with $750K you could probably build one of the nicest houses in the whole town.

I agree - of the three towns mentioned Alameda would easily be my first choice. Single guy has easy access to SF and Oakland, and does not live in the life-sucking dreary suburbia of Dublin or Fremont. I'm a big fan of Alameda, having lived there for ten years in my younger single days.

The hills of Fremont are much nicer than what you see from 880, which is dreadfully horrid. Alameda is really nice and cute, but getting on/off the island is a pain.

You're single. Go with Alameda. Or you risk getting old before your time.

Tack,
Your post is WAAAYYYY too general for anyone to offer you any meaningful advice. You will need to do more research and read more posts. Start to identify what's important to you, and then ask SPECIFIC questions. No one can help you as you really haven't asked us anything.
