Hello, my offer for a house near Story Road/ Clayton Rd has been accepted and I am deciding whether I should cancel my contract or not. Do you know if that area is okay (crime) for my family? My sons have already graduated from high school so I am not concerned about the schools.

Up in the hills is fine, there's hardly any crime in that area. It's a bit run down but it's bound to continue improving. Awful traffic.

Personally, I don't like the East Side of SJ. The far east side & the hills are ok as far as crime goes, but you have to shop in areas that are kind of run down and/or filled with litter in the parking lots. And for a lot of things, you have to go to the other side of town (..as in East SJ doesn't have a decent bookstore).

It is true, the general area has improved in recent years, but I doubt it is ever going to be a great area since much of the housing stock is cheaply built and falling apart.

But that far east, the crime shouldn't be a big problem.
