Los Gatos - SFO by public transport
OK, I'll admit that I had this picture of California as being a progressive hippy paradise where everyone takes light rail to work and all the buses run on rainbows but apparently I've been misinformed. I guess living in big cities all my life has spoiled me for public transit options.
As far as I can tell, Los Gatos is served by 2 bus lines (the 48 and 49) which only stop in the downtown area (does everyone else have to have a car?!?!?!)l. You take that to light rail at Winchester, and then Caltrain into the city, total about $15 in fares and 2.5 hours travel if you make all your connections.
Are there any better options?

You could take Super Shuttle. They will provide door-to-door service, but it will probably take at least an hour, if not longer (since they will be picking up other people as well), and will cost you 3-4x as much.

Nope.. Los Gatos has been very active in getting rid of its once-extensive bus service. They used to have the 38, but that has been discontinued. The 62 no longer goes to downtown LG (replaced by the 48/49). The 27, which used to go through Los Gatos to West Valley College, now turns around pretty much right at the San Jose/Los Gatos border. That area is all suburban sprawl anyway, so the Los Gatos parts of the routes weren't being used very much.

OK, driving it is! At least there are no tolls on CA roads, that makes it a little less painful.

Just the bridges. There won't be any tolls going up and down the peninsula.
