I just found out i got tickets to the Open in 2010. Now i have to try and find lodging. Any opinions on the Holiday Inn San Jose-Morgan Hill? It has decent rates for that time period and im guessing is less than an hour or so away from Pebble Beach. Are there some other places that i could research that may be closer? Any advice on the best airport to fly into would be great too. Any and all help is appreciated since i am unfamiliar with the area and CA....we are coming from Austin, TX.

That's a bit of a hike from Morgan Hill to Pebble Beach. Check google maps and look at the estimated driving time. I would guess about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes, without traffic.
There are plenty of places closer. If you want to really be adventurous, you can stay in Salinas. Choose a fairly upscale type of place though in that town. Monterey's hotels and motels raise their rates considerably when there's an event in town. Maybe not all of them, but some certainly do.

Longtime Morgan Hill resident here. That area right next to 101 smells like cow manure and has at least since 1989, but you shouldn't smell it inside the hotel. Don't open the windows. Oh, and check out Just Breakfast on Monterey Road while you're in MH. Have fun.

There's also a Holiday Inn Express on Main St. in Watsonville. Much of Hwy 1 down to Monterey is 4-lane freeway.

Yeah, if you want cheap lodging, there are closer places that are equally unglamorous.

i also got open tickets, and the best, most economical deal i found was in san jose. like was said here, its quite a distance from pebble beach, but look to pay 3x as much to stay any closer.

Yep, that's the problem. Morgan Hill is actually a pretty good option, lots of freeways close to the freeway. Traffic can be tedious getting out to the coast on weekends, but you'd get hit with worse if you were coming from San Jose. I picked a bad day last summer and it took 2 hours to get from Bernal in SJ to Leavesley in Gilroy.

You might try the HIE in Marina... it's about 15 minutes from your golf and off the radar a bit. The Morgan Hill HIE is fine. The rooms surround an atrium/lobby area and that can get noisy if the staff don't keep it under control. As for the smell, there's nothing there that's offensive. Just a drama queen or two here.
