mm= 1,000,000 (one million)

m is the roman numeral for 1,000
so mm (or m x m) = one million.

I agree that it's confusing though, since it could also be seen as the m standing for M illion.

Take into consideration that I will be buying a million dollar home cash. Is it possible to survive in these cities on the income I just stated above with no mortgagae or any debts whatsoever. I only ask because I have heard and seen on this board many times that it is a very expensive place to live.
I think you'll be okay.

All depends on how exuberant you want to be about it. One forumer in the city-vs-city thread bragged about $17,000 shoes and if you live like that, your going to burn through your money very quickly.

As far as Santana Row/ Valley Fair "lifestyle", those are basically malls so I don't what you mean about their lifestyle-you go there to spend money that's about it. LOL

Sorry, but you must use a different Roman numeral system than I do..

By this reasoning, XX should be 100, but it is 20. MM is 2000, as any good Roman knows.

Actually, I don't use roman numbers at all, unless you count watching the Super Bowl, Olympics or Star Wars movies.

You're right, mm=1 mil. is NOT correct roman numeration... That's just the way they often write it on financial reports as shorthand for 1,000x1,000, or one million... At any rate, in my original post 'mm', was intended to stand for 'million'. But I agree, if I were a roman mathematician it would just be 2000. Thanks for all the history and math geniuses for egregiously pointing that out. (only in Silicon Valley... SHEESH!)

I'm actually surprised that no one pointed out that mm actually stands for millimeter, while MM could indicate the roman number 2000, someone with a master's degree in music, or many other things...

MM

(okay, isn't that amazing, if not a little freaky, that wikipedia actually has an entry for 'MM'?)
