Sonarrat, thank you so much, your post was the most helpful. It almost sounds like Palo Alto and Mountain View are tied, but I did some googling, and there is no 24hr fitness and no Mixed Martial Arts gyms in Palo Alto...

So if the night life is close, the quality of life even, Mountain View it is!

Now that I look again, Mountain View has a Best Buy too, so in that case it wins in that department hands-down. There are express trains to San Francisco from both Mountain View and Palo Alto. If you can, though, try to live west of El Camino Real. It's further away from the Caltrain station but the neighborhood is a lot better.

Los Altos, near El Camino, and near the PA border. I lived there and it was good (a probably still is). I tended to split my forays between downtown PA and downtown MV, but slightly favored PA due the Stanford effect (LOL!). Pretty tough to type that as product of Regent led silliness ...

Just live in a nice area in SJ. Your close to MV or PA anyway..If money doesn't matter, live near Santana Row..great bachelor pads over there.

If you want to casually date young women, San Jose is probably not your best bet. It's a very family centered and oriented city. The population that is married and has children tends to be above-average (especially in the neighborhoods worth living in like Santa Teresa or Alamden Valley). There are college campuses though, if that is your "hunting ground." That said, I am not much for casual dating, so perhaps there is an entire scene here that I am not aware of... take my 2 cents with a grain of salt...

The only thing I'd disagree with is #4. I would think most would say the quality of life is better in Palo Alto. However, Mountain View is right next door and is good enough.
