Default 26/ Female- advice about areas!

I'm going to be teaching in Alum Rock district. What will be the least hassle(traffic-wise) but the nicest and slightly affordable area to rent an apartment?
I don't need a lot of partying places, don't like it noisy, but would like to be close to fun stuff like restaurants, shopping, etc.

I always suggest the Willow Glen area of San Jose. Also the rose garden arean.

What would you want to be paying in rent??

I will aim for $800-950 range! What are the main streets for those areas?

The downtown area is Lincoln Ave and Willow Street. It's a very nice little area. Check out www.downtownwillowglen.org. Also check out www.craigslist.com for apartments. Craigslist is the main resource for apartment hunting.

Another neat area is the Rose Garden area. I wouldn't live in east San Jose (alum rock is there). It has pockets of bad areas, and if you arent familiar with San Jose, I would just avoid living there.

Most of west and south San Jose are good areas. Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino. Mountain View has a cool, hip little downtown, but its a little further out. Honestly, on your budget you may not find much. There is some stuff on Craigslist for in the areas mentioned, but you have to jump on them. Cheap places go fast ($950 a month for a 1 bedroom is cheap here).
