Any information on Melody Park, San Jose, CA? (Monterey, Cambria: real estate, foreclosures)

Is this area a bad area to live in? Anyone have any experience whether there's gang activity around there or not?

Yes there is gang activity in the area, especially closer to Senter. If you're closer to the velodrome, the vibe is different. If for some reason you're set on the south side, look in Santa Teresa, Silver Leaf, or the area Google calls Hayes. That's a nice area that a lot of people ignore in favor of Willow Glen and Cambrian.

The 95111 zip code is generally an undesirable zip code. For the most part it is somewhat run-down and unattractive. The area you're referring to is one of the better pockets though. I used to practice real estate and would tend to steer prospective buyers away from this zip code. There are lots of foreclosures, especially along the Capitol Expwy. corridor and around Seven Trees and a large part of the area around Monterey Hwy. The neighborhood east of 101 near Coyote Rd. is ok for the most part, but I probably would check out other areas of South San Jose (if that's where you're mostly looking). 95123 and 95136 are Blossom Valley and both zip codes are nicer than 95111. Blossom Valley is middle class and prices are not much higher in this area than the 95111 zip, but the neighborhoods are for the most part much nicer and safer.

Is there really a lot of gang activity there? I thought most of it was north closer to 101 and Tully and higher. I've driven around the Park and it doesn't seem like a bad neighborhood. It is right next to an Elementary school and church also.

The Monterey/Capitol/Senter triangle is a well known Latino gang area. It looks quiet during the day, but at night it's a different story. Try visiting after midnight.
