OMG we are from texas and have only seen earthquakes in movies! Yesterday i felt the 4.1 in Freemont and we felt today the 3.8 near 6 miles NE of Malpitas... OMG we are freaked, is this regular? How bad does it get?

And what does an earthquake feel like when you are say.... walking on the pavement outside of a shopping center. The only ones we have felt are those two and we were in our apartments both times. It felt like riding on the back of a school bus!

A real earthquake will feel like riding on the back of a school bus on an unpaved road driving over boulders while going off a cliff.

Welcome to California. Enjoy your expensive rental and hour long commute. Fun times!

Just be aware there is a 70% chance the Bay Area will get a 6.7 magnitude earthquake or larger between now and 2029.

Hi there,
As a California native, I'm not that freaked out by Earthquakes. But I'm aware of what to do if it's a big one.

If your apartment's water heater is inside the unit, make sure it's braced properly. Here, you can check out the Homeowners Guide to Earthquake Safety and it will explain: http://www.seismic.ca.gov/pub/CSSC_2005-01_HOG.pdf We have to provide every new homeowner with one, but it's important to know for renters too, and your landlord needs to abide by these basic codes.

You'll also see in this guide what to do before, during and After an earthquake.

Welcome to California and let us know if you have any other questions!

That quake in Humboldt County this weekend reportedly measured 6.5. Scary to think of something of that magnitude on the Hayward or other other Bay Area fault.

You can seriously go YEARS without feeling an earthquake, although they are happening regularly. One of my friends lived here 10 years before relocating to the east coast and was disappointed that she never felt one. They did occur while she was here only they were either to small to make an impact or she was out and about and didn't notice.

I was born and raised in Florida and went through many hurricanes and tornadoes. I've experienced 3 earthquakes when I lived in California. I'll take the earthquakes.

As another post indicated, they are happening all the time. But you will rarely feel them.
