An average one.
I think LA and San Fran are too expensive for me. |

San Jose housing is more expensive than LA. The median price is comparable to SF's, but SF housing seems smaller. If LA and SF are too expensive for you, SJ probably is too.

okay.....well, do you guys have anywhere to recommend that I could go for more affordable place to live? I like warm weather and would prefer somewhere in California.

Riverside, Sacramento, and Fresno are significantly cheaper. You can take a look at those places.

Thanks for that...Yeah it says that
Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario and Sacramento--Arden-Arcade--Roseville are the most affordable. So how are these places like? Is there access to a beach? I'm 25 and single if that makes any difference. Sacramento looks like a really good fit! |

Those places are inland. I think they're at least an hour away from the ocean. I don't know much else about them... I haven't lived there.

Sacramento is inland, but that just means it's closer to skiing in the winter. Most places in California are nice in the fact that it's only a few hours drive to the beach, and a few hours the other way to the mountains. East-West travel is easily done in a day trip (although 6-7 hours to get there from coast to mountains so you might want a hotel when you get there). North-South is another story however...that one is a LONG drive.

How much does a house cost? There is a saying here, if you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford it. Why California? There are other states that offer what you are looking for. Cali is great, but being close to the ocean and affordability are not a combo you will find here.

Sacramento is about 2 - 2 1/2 hours from a decent beach. You'd be better off going to a lake around Sacramento or dipping into the Sacramento River with those two lost whales.
You can find older houses or newer 1-2 bedrooms condos in San Jose for around the $400,000 to $600,000 range. |
