wouldn't that depend on a number of factors?
with the limited info you've given, how is anyone to have a take on your situation?

Gosh, 51 is young. You are , more or less, the same age as Daniel Day-Lewis, Carrie Fisher, George Clooney & Hugh Laurie ( House ) . I wish you did not feel this way about yourself.

That's a first!
Not that it's a wrong dream to have, but the usual is Hawaii, Paris, the French Riviera, etc...
Yes, it's a good idea. There are plenty of nice places to live in the South Bay and lots to do.
Oh yeah, you're not old either!
Here's a guy exactly your age:

He lives in CA too, so you just might end up being neighbors. He's easy to spot too. Always walks around without a shirt.

Just curious, out of all the places you could have "always wanted to move," how did you pick San Jose? I live here and it's fine for my purposes at the moment (mainly a short commute to work), but at best I would consider it undistinguished.

Are you going to be working for a living? If not, there must be at least a hundred places in California alone that will give you better bang for the buck AND be more interesting to live in. You pay a huge premium in housing cost (rent or purchase) due to the proximity to Silicon Valley jobs.

Maybe the o.p. is a Dionne fan. The song is so incongruent with the place ... funny. Or was she singing about San Jose, Texas?
I almost sang this question to a cop last summer when i was hopelessly / totally lost in Oakland and needed to get back to San Jose to get back to Santa Cruz.
But i chickened out ... he looked kinda serious and too young to get it.

YouTube - Dionne Warwick - do you know the way to san jose

I guess the questions would be:

What field will you be looking for work in?
Buying or renting? Budget?
What type of community do you like? Urban or suburban?
How often do you need the airport?
Is public transportation a concern?

Any info you can provide would help us steer you in the right direction.
